Supply Chain in the worldSupply Chain in the world: from risk management to global integrationThe global market requires an ever-greater capacity to predict solutions to the “unpredictable” problems that can derive from business contingencies - such as the need to be faster, more efficient, yield better performance – or even disastrous events such as natural calamities. Whatever the cause, whether we are dealing with hurricanes, the bankruptcy or loss of an important supplier or a terrorist attack, any interruption in the supply chain can generate losses that are often incalculable. Hence the emergence of Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM), which is fast becoming an integral part of the Supply Chain Manager’s job: risk, all too often, cannot be eliminated, yet one must know how to manage it and this can only be done through adequate training. In this respect too IT integration of the supply chain can, where properly designed and implemented, play a key role as it can be used to provide information that enhances visibility, monitor the behaviour of those in the chain, evaluate supplier performance over defined time periods and provide the flexibility needed to respond quickly to any danger warnings for the entire system.
