SPIDER-WIN solution, the result of an international research project having the same name, on the other hand addresses the two-way communication between manufacturing companies and their second level suppliers. A number of very important partners took part in the project: Berlin IPK-Fraunhofer Institute, Joinet, Sisteplant (Spain company specialized in application programs for production management), the engineering faculty of Warsaw University and, finally, three important manufacturing companies and some of their first and second level suppliers (Ducati Motor Italia, Gamesa aerospace – Spain, PZL aerospace – Poland).

SPIDER-WIN does not interfere with the administrative relationship between the first level and the second level suppliers. The first will continue to make ‘administrative’ orders to the second one at will. But two essential functions are introduced:
1) it ‘translates’ the consignment plans generated by the customer firm into plans comprehensible to the second level supplier and makes them immediately available through the Internet. This sort of translation occurs thanks to a specific software module, which in actual fact is the application program core, the interlink modeller. Thanks to this module, the customer company can define for each part number ordered to a first level supplier which information is to be spread to one or more second level suppliers by defining translations of item codes, multiplicative elements and deliveries from first level suppliers carried out earlier.
2) It ‘foretells’ possible delivery delays from first level suppliers on the basis of the stock value of some important components. This stock is measured both with regard to first and second level suppliers. The comparison between the state of stock and the OEM company delivery plans can be made thanks to the interlink modeller mentioned above.

The functioning of the application program translating delivery data (see point 1) is very simple. The second level supplier can connect to a portal, where it can display and print the customer’s plans properly translated into item codes they can comprehend and with delivery dates properly anticipated considering the crossing time of the first level supplier. The availability of these data increasingly improves the second level supplier’s performances, because they can implement supplying and planning policies earlier than the receipt of orders from the first level supplier.
The functioning of the application program foreseeing delays is as easier and information about it can be asked directly to Joinet.
